British officials were concerned about possible environmental damage Tuesday and looking for answers a day after a cargo ship carrying a toxic chemical hit a tanker transporting jet fuel for the U.S. military off eastern England, setting both vessels ablaze.

Jet fuel from a ruptured tank poured into the North Sea after the Portugal-registered container ship Solong broadsided the U.S-flagged tanker MV Stena Immaculate on Monday. The collision sparked explosions and fires that burned for 24 hours. Footage filmed from a helicopter on Tuesday morning showed the fire appeared to be out on the tanker, which had a large gash on its port side.

I live on the North East Coast of England and this is the first major disaster of ships colliding in fog. On a clear night you can see many ships anchored off shore waiting for clearance to drop cargo and the coastline often has heavy fog banks off shore. All ships have echo sounders on board showing other ships in the area. If an echo sounder can show a shoal of fish, it sure as h*ll can see a huge cargo ship anchored.
This stinks to high heaven of a deliberate act of sabotage…… Chemicals and fuel, what’s the odds on that combination crashing!!!

This is the second set of ships that have crashed into each other in the past 50 days. That’s two crashes with ships versus two crashes with planes.

how do ships as big as some small towns hit each other in 2025?

"There was fog." The ship has Radar and Satellite Navigation Systems. They were approaching an anchorage where they should have been starting to reduce speed. The navigation system should have sounded an alarm long before the collision.

Total normal air quality readings don’t worry, a burning tanker doesn’t have any impact to the air quality

I'm from the city Hull and I live in 14th floor apartment I could see the smoke in the distance, the capital has been arrested by our local police force, I guess he is gonna be charged with reckless manslaughter, they was a really dense fog on Monday but given the technology onboard ships that wouldn't of made a difference the fact the US ship was anchored just south of the Humber estuary and had been for some time and still the other ship still managed to crash into! Also it's sad that one of the crew has been lost at sea!

Suspicious indeed! the crew and captain are all nearsighted or it was done on purpose.

Her engine still runs and she's floating OK. How strong was that ship built? The ball at the front in tact and only a few sheets of metal crushed.. Great!
