As a former math teacher, I wanted to dive into our experience using Math Lessons for a Living Education---why did we choose it? Are we sticking with it? What other math curriculum do we prefer? Here is my opinion/insight after using and looking at many other math curricula out there!

Did you find any use of the home instructor's printouts as well as the tests ?

Thank you for this. Maybe this is also a good book for first time homeschool parents. Yeah?

Thank you for this! Trying to decide if we want to stick with Master Books for next school year...

Thank you!! Finding a math curriculum is so difficult because every child is so different, but having you explain this curriculum from a math teacher's perspective was very helpful. ❤️

Our family also leans more on the side of being stronger in math (my ongoing joke is that my parents met in engineering school and pretty much treated our homeschool as an engineering prep school....as a high school student I took Calculus, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, etc....and I was a bit of a disappointment because I went on to get a B.A....haha!) From everything I've heard about MLFLE, I am guessing that it wouldn't be a good fit for us. Our 9th grader is loving Life of Fred Advanced Algebra...I've heard very good things about Singapore for people who like math and thrive on the concepts and calculations, but I've never actually used it.

My son used MB for level 2 and 3 and I felt like I had to supplement a lot until I came across their Practice Makes Perfect Book. I wish they had more for the upper levels, but I just don't think they've written them yet. Love your take and your experience!!

I feel like my daughter is advanced in math but she's not at the age that I want to spend a ton of time on math or spend alot of money. Been leaning towards Singapore for the future but just felt like she could start earlier than age 6 since she's grasping things well. Figured this could be a easy approach cheap option to let her do math and gain skills before taking Singapore's placement test when she's in first grade. Thanks for the review!

What are your thoughts on the Good and the Beautiful math?

Just curious if you are familiar with BJU math and what your thoughts are on it? This is my first year homeschooling my 4th grade son. I didn't feel comfortable teaching him math myself, so I ordered the video lessons to go with his workbook. While the teacher is very good, it can be a bit much for my son since the video is 1/2 hour and then there is the workbook page and fact reviews after that. Not sure if there is a better curriculum that would give us more of a balance and keep him engaged.

Thank you for this video! And thank you for so diligently attending to each of the comments! I am so thankful to find you on Youtube! I don't know if you have heard about Life of Fred Mathematics or not. I heard about it from a mom who is using Ray's Arithmetics + Life of Fred + Khan academy. It seems very engaging. It used funny stories of Fred to bring math (more than math)to life. I wonder if you think Life of Fred Mathematics can be used as a curriculum or just a supplement. Will you recommend the Ray's Arithmetics + Life of Fred combo, Singapore Math + Life of Fred? I know I have brought a few new names that add up your work, if you could shed some light, I would really really appreciate it!!

We used Masterbooks for math for 1st grade last year and now 2nd grade. I ended up having to supplement a lot this year with practice problems and math facts. I feel like the story and other activities like crafts/recipes are unnecessary because we do that sort of stuff throughout the week anyway. I am looking for more of a mastery approach math curriculum without fluff for next year. What do you think of Math Mammoth? Thanks for putting your opinion out there as a math teacher and homeschooler!

We love Singapore Math, are you using the new 2021version. My youngest, almost 6 has only ever done Singapore Maths, mostly, Math in Focus and he’s very advanced in Maths for his age. My other child, who did go to school, didn’t learn that approach but is ahead in Maths but his problem solving skills and manipulating numbers is letting him down. I’ve just started him on Singapore Maths and also Saxon 7/6, can you see any issues with this plan? X
