That's the whole reason I have not gotten panels in the sunshine state yet! I've been waiting for this bill to be repealed and the other regulations to be fixed before I spend the money to install my panels because I don't think it's right that I should pay for the equipment and then someone else should reap the rewards

This sounds like a great idea to begin with, but there is more to it. The home owner is essentially using the grid as a large storage battery. When it is sunny, he can make more energy than he needs and sell it to the power company. When it is dark, he draws energy from the grid. The power company has certain fixed costs to install and maintain the infrastructure to service the homeowner in this system.

If the homeowner uses very little or no net power, then he contributes little or nothing to maintaining the power lines and generating equipment. If lots of people start doing this, then who pays for the poles and the wires? And, who pays to replace them every time a hurricane blows them down? That means the price per unit of electricity will have to go up and really rock those who don't have solar cells.

Perhaps a fair way to do this would be to have a fixed charge for each residential to be connected to the power company and then charge a lower unit rate for electricity.

it's a ploy by the electric utilities nationwide. they don't elect customers generating electric. they want to make all the money.

THANK YOU DeSantis!!
What is the point of personal solar, and the
buy back programs if it is limited. We should also
be allowed to use our own solar and shut off the
Power Companies' service if we please.

It looks like Ron Desantis is taking action to support the public as he always does. But this time it's really big. A big move towards Green energy. Solar Power is especially expected to grow big in the future.
Ron's veto move is going to allow for more customers to sign up for solar power and save a lot of money.
I wish he could run for the presidential race in 2024.

Good for wealthy solar rooftop owners, and overwhelmingly they are, not so good Florida.

Berkeley's Borenstein:
"All the data shows the customers who put in solar are disproportionately wealthy, and so when customers install solar they are generally shifting cost on the people who are poorer."

Next these folks will take their 2nd rate backyard citrus or veggies down to the grocer and demand he buy them at full retail price. Never mind the professional farmer supplies at much lower cost using fewer resources per unit, which them means the grocer needs to raise prices across the board.
