Snake Oil or Worth It? Fuel Injector Cleaner

I was told by an old school car guy many years ago that the LUCAS fuel injector cleaner was the best. I took his word for it and have use this exact cleaner for decades now.

What is your favorite injector cleaner? Or are you convinced it's just a hoax?

Buy it by the gallon and it's a lot cheaper.

I suggest this to my customers at least four times a year, also good when you're doing a spark plug replacement.

It lubricates the fuel system and upper part of the cylinder like leaded gas used to do. When we removed lead from gasoline, we also removed all of its lubricating properties. This does the job that lead did in years past without affecting your catalytic converters or causing brain damage.

Many moons ago I bought into all this stuff. When the time came and I finally had to tear that engine down it was practically brand new internally in the way of cleanliness. Hardly any carbon and injectors completely clean

The Lucas managed to unstick a set of LB7 injectors, and I'm using the same injectors 2 years later. I used a 1/2 gallon in 32 gallons of fuel for the first 2 tanks, and then used a quart per 32 gallons every 6 months or so. Way cheaper than new injectors. Hasn't hurt the FASS pump either.

I have 379, 150 mikes on my 2008 Dodge Charger v6 3.5 L engine and I always put Lucas Oil additive at each synthetic oil change like clockwork. I’ll have to try this product out too! I’m trying to make my engine last another 20, 000 miles to 400, 000 miles and may even post it on Facebook or something. Wish me luck! 🤞🇺🇸

I've had really good luck with Techron fuel injector cleaner. Made by Chevron who make gasoline. I swear by it.

Gasoline is a pretty good solvent on its own. Run good gas consistently and avoid these problems

I don't know what they put in it, but this stuff works ! My old, decrepit, 2008 Nissan Altima with 150, 000 miles on it sounds smoother than Fourplay with a bottle of this in the tank 🤣

Anything Lucas is good stuff, stuff is really great for diesels keeps that cp4 lubricated, their oil additive is amazing and the transmission additive can’t get no better,
Nothing is a mechanic in a bottle. This stuff is for preventative maintenance and it really does help.

It really does work. Cleaned all the crap off the valves of my Dodge 5.9 magnum with 188, 000 miles. I know this due to i swapped from the Kegger intake manifold to the Hughes intake. I buy it buy the gallon. 👍

I've been using it for 15 years, I've never had the injectors cleaned in the three vehicles I own, my pickup is 20 years old, never had any fuel problems

I put this in a John Deere 445 lawn and garden tractor with a Kawasaki liquid cooled engine
She was running pretty rough and she was using a lot of oil.😊 Within minutes of driving it it started smoothing out and I got my power back it also uses a lot less oil than it did. I believe I finished that little bottle over two tanks. Work great on a boat too. I'm happy with it.

Lucas is a good brand. I’ve used it on multiple customer vehicles to help with deposits. We are in Amazon dealer now and we prefer Amsoil products over the Lucas, but both of them make outstanding products and I would recommend one of my customers. With deposit buildup.

Use as preventive maintenance

Not once you have issues!

It works. It has polyether amine in it which cleans deposits that accumulate over time by not using tier-one gasoline, which has good detergents. It's a good thing to use every 3-6k miles before filling up. It'll reduce fuel dilution of your oil too (which increases wear).

All of them work fairly well. Lucas’s is probably the most mild because it’s mostly heavy paraffinic oil. Berryman’s B12 is the cheapest and one of the most effective because it’s xylene, toluene, and acetone; but you need to be careful using it where it could get on plastic or nylon in too high of concentrations, although that should be more than twice their recommended dosage, although that is just speculation. I have used both and overall the B12 is the best especially if it hasn’t been cleaned regularly. I used their injector cleaner for about a year and it did clean up the fuel system, but I think Startron’s fuel stabilizer is probably better because it has naphthalene and does more cleaning and deposits prevention. For the cost of those Lucas tune ups, you can get catalytic converter cleaner that does at least as much for the fuel system while clearing out the exhaust system too

There was a study of fuel system additives that Engineering Explained summarizes in one of his older videos, basically most of them are worse than useless for cleaning injectors if used regularly, but can be useful very occasionally, or possibly for cleaning things besides the injectors

Lucas is a lubricant. It will clean, but it does a better job of coating the valve seals and cylinder walls to help reduce wear.
If you believe you have carbon build up, use a tougher fuel treatment with a high octane fuel (Shell 93). Fill the tank and drive on a long trip.
Once you need to fill up again. Go back to your preferred fuel choice and put in the recommended amount of Lucas.

I've used Lucas in my motorcycle and my car, and I have had no problems with my injectors. It cleans and lubricates the fuel injectors and it burns a little bit hotter to help with carbon buildup in your combustion chambers. It's good stuff.
