Why a Real ID is required for air travel #shorts

The Department of Homeland Security has extended the Real ID deadline until May 7, 2025, giving Americans two more years to upgrade their license or state IDs. Yahoo News explains why the U.S. government originally pushed for the change in identification for air travel.

If you already have a United States passport, which pretty much requires the same criteria, why do you need a real ID? I’ll answer my own question, because there’s an additional fee to obtain one. Their idea but we have to pay for it, sounds about right for yet another money grab.

All US citizens have the right to travel all navigable airspace in the USA accirding to US Code.

If you have a passport, you don’t have to bother with real ID. But you would have to have your passport every time you fly in the states.

You only need a passport ID card if traveling domestically or Mexico, Canada, Bermuda, and Caribbean. No need for real ID. Remember to also to bring your drivers license as back up.

nah ill stick to my passport. not recognized as voting ID in every state, not interested. passport + tsa precheck = 1-2 min wait line
