Dollar Origami Elephant

Paper: 1 US dollar bill

This is a cool origami elephant made from a US dollar bill. A fun project is to fold several of them and make it look like a train with each elephant's trunk holding the previous elephant's tail.

Note: Dollar bills are quite thick so really use your nails to make the creases.

My late aunt always believed that elephants give good luck.
During this quarantine madness I wrote letters..yes actual Old School hand written letters...to family and friends. In each letter I put inside a origami elephant as a little piece of hope and good luck.
They can carry it with them in purses or wallets.

I did this with a €5 bill, which is a bit smaller than the dollar bill. Due to the slight difference in length, the front legs of the elephant came out a bit shorter, and the elephant is much tinier too. But I adjusted the back legs to match the front and it came out great! THANK YOU

When i was 12 in the 90s my aunt had a book on origami and i found it one day and did them all. The elephant was the last one and this bitch was tough. It so cool though. Now im here almost 40 remembering the good ol days.

You only did one thing wrong.. if you start folding on the other side of the dollar bill the eye in the pyramid lines up in the proper place on the elephant and the pattern looks more like an Indian elephant.. your way there’s no pattern.. try it..

Yes, this is intermediate, beginners need to pause at every step. Take your time getting all edges and creases precise, and to make sure your dollar bill is crisp (I used and old dollar bill and some of the creases were a bit blurry so some symmetry was off- I am a beginner) I was able to make the elephant but somewhere along the way the front legs of my origami elephant ended up inside out- I noticed too many "overlapping" folds it didn't look as smooth As I would have hope. I REAALLY think that due to not having a straighter bill is why I wasn't able to get those final tucks.. because from the side is looks like an elephant but in the front it looks like something from Jurassic Park (yes the dilophosaurous from the movie with the frilled neck crests- you gotta google that one) lol. Other than where I got lost, I was able to follow everything. This video was very well explained. will have to try this one again with a straighter bill! :)
