Thunderpole T-800: unboxing & first look

In this video I look at the Thunderpole T-800 CB radio, this is a basic set with a volume/power control, squelch control, RF gain control, and a mic with channel up/down and autosquelch.

The supplied mic on this example is the same as the T-3000, which Thunderpole have standardised on as the smaller mic supplied with earlier units was not that great, early units also suffered from CPU noise and an RF gain control that did not work in FM, all these issues are solved now and it looks to be a well sorted radio, in fact on a dummy load that has a metal case it was still able to pick up noise in the room.

The only quirk with this radio I have found is the band selections do not quite match what is in the book and though I might have found the information needed I will need to test the radio on a dummy load in all the modes to find out where it is actually transmitting, another video for another day, however it is currently in the UK mode ready to go on air hopefully in the coming days

All in all a decent set, clear channel display, controls where you need them, no menus, an LED S-meter, a perfect beginner radio for those that just want a means to talk to their friends or colleagues or use in a convoy of vehicles, and it is good to use in all European countries.

So just an on-air test and I also hope to get a car-to-car test done also.

I'm sure it would be quite simple to increase the TX power. However, this could have a negative effect on the AM modulation depth. It would be nice if more people used AM, now it's legal to do do.
