Why the MCU’s Secret Invasion Doesn’t Care About the Comics

Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion is right around the corner! IGN sat down with the series cast and crew, including Samuel L. Jackson, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Ali Salim, to discuss the upcoming espionage thriller and just how little it has to do with the comic as a whole.

Coming to Disney+ later this month, the MCU's take on Secret Invasion will give us a whole new spin on the title. The cast and crew break down the departure from the comics, as well as the lack of The Avengers, The Defenders, The Fantastic 4, and the other major players who (probably) won't be making an appearance in the series.  Nick Fury, on the other hand, will be front and center as his longtime friend Talos take on the impending Skrull invasion.

To be fair, none of us were thinking this series would have Thor ending a Skrull battle in Central Park or a moment in the Savage Land where everyone fights their 1970's counterparts. That being said, hoping they keep to the John Carpenter's "The Thing" or "Among Us" spirit of the story.

They really couldn’t have done the comic story without making it an Endgame level of casting expense. Which is fine, but why use the name in that case?

We've reached a point now where the MCU doesn't need to use iconic comic book titles to tell original stories. Same thing with Age of Ultron. It's almost like we're being catfished.

Next MCU is going to be called Planet Hulk, but the Hulk or Banner isn't in the movie since it's got nothing to do with the comic.

Telling people that Secret Invasion doesn't take from the comics is for that core group that REALLY want to watch this but have, for some reason, never seen a comic book movie, TV series or cartoon before. Since, you know, none of them have been based on the comics, except for Watchmen.

This is marvels problem.. they forgot who their real fans are .. the people watching these stories are usually the people who read the comics and when one has nothing to do with The other, they are pissing off everyone

What's the point of using the same title as the comics? If it's gonna be something completely new then make up a new name. This just confuses and disappoints the fans of the actual series
