The prom is organized 100 days before graduation from high school. It is a beautiful Polish tradition that begins with a beautiful court dance called " polonez" (polonaise). The prom is a symbol of young people entering adulthood. After 100 days, there is the final high school exam called the matriculation exam (PL matura). Then, young people with a high school diploma in their hands begin adult life, most often deciding to continue university studies. The prom (PL studnowka) beginning with the polonaise ( PL polonez) is a unique tradition existing in 🇵🇱 Poland only.

This is one of the Polish slow dances. It was danced by the nobility at royal courts as a "parlance of the nobility" before the monarch. It was also danced at noble courts for centuries. During the partitions, when Poland lost its independence, it was used somewhat in secret as a symbol of Polishness. Poland is a wonderful country with centuries of tradition and culture ;-) Currently, since the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, the Polonaise is danced at the opening of proms.

I danced the Polonaise for the first time when I was 6 years old in kindergarten.
Pononez (Polonaise) is on the UNESCO list as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Notice that after all these partner changes, at the end of each figure danced, everyone dances with their original partner again.
You have to try it sometime. It's easy, you can do it. Take your place in the fourth or fifth pair and repeat everything after the others.

To jest Polonez, taniec jest wykonywany tradycyjnie krok i dygnięcie, trochę zmienia się zmienia choreografia . Jednak krok i dygnięcie pozostaje . Piękne wspomnienia 😘😘

I had not thought before that it is a tradition in our country that can be admired by others. It is beautiful that young people are involved in learning dance and present themselves so elegantly.

This a type of nobility walking ("chodzony") dance; "taniec dworski".
From Wikipeddia:
"The prototype of the polonaise was a walking dance of folk origin, first danced among the people, known in its prototype - the hop dance, "walked" from the second half of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century, and over time it became popular in magnate courts. At the courts of Polish kings, the polonaise was an element of court ceremonial, serving as a parade of the nobility before the monarch. It was danced at the beginning of balls, and now it inaugurates some events to emphasize their solemn character."

Yes, this is one of many Polish traditional dances. It is called: Polonaise in E minor "Farewell to the Homeland" by the famous Polish composer Michał Kleofas Ogiński. It was composed around 1794. Therefore, a farewell to the homeland, because Poland in those years was in 123 years of captivity (it had not been on the world map since 1795), hence the title expressing longing for the homeland. And the author had to leave Poland, because he took part in the uprising against the enemies, who unfortunately took Poland into captivity. The tradition in Polish schools is that they dance this polonaise a hundred days before the final exams at high school. The dance is very complex and has the same elements for decades and students learn the arrangements of these elements and the arrangement you saw is created. Students volunteer to learn this dance in the last year of high school. And outside of lessons, under the watchful eye of an instructor, they learn the Polonaise, which they will dance at the college. Studniówka is a word consisting of two words that can be translated as "one hundred days". Ogoński's Polonaise was often used in the 20th century as an opening dance for balls, which is why it is still a tradition in Polish schools to have this dance start the ball.

Studniówka 2007. Pomyśleć że minęło już 18 lat. Dziś bym chyba nie dał rady tego powtórzyć 😉
