I’m bummed about Makeup Geek closing, but I felt like it was a long time coming. One of my favorite shades of all time is still Shimma Shimma. I have a backup, thankfully!

I love BH's shadow formula! I only recently tried Make-up Geek shadows. They are really nice too. It's really sad that they had to close. I do hope Revolution adopts BH's shadow formula rather than making new "BH" palettes with their formula. Lol! Beautiful look!

I love BH’s formula; I hope they keep the good formula. Yes I hope what you said is a positive and maybe their other products will improve. I am definitely going to have to go on a low buy! I just purchased that new ND pastel palette as well as the kosas’ new foundation. And a couple weeks ago I bought the glam lite $100 box. Yep will need to slow down!! I love your look!!! So lovely!! I think it’s revealing how much brands like BH and MG spun both sides of how the socials work for and against you.
On one hand BH had a strong following and loyal support plus a lot of releases, but still didn’t seem to either break out like MURevolution. They effectively were a drug store brand that stuck pretty much to mail order and Ulta (? Not an ulta shopper).

MG didn’t churn out product like colourpop, had an uneven rebrand, and became the victim of algorithm/viewer hungry channels that never did throwbacks to them because now palettes are king. So it’s hard to discuss a few singles when not everyone has the same context. And few beauty channels across the socials do MG at all.

You are one of the few channels that does older palettes.

Lind of a shame that MG held out for US manufacturing while not having the Colourcrap infrastructure.

Makeup geek is a funny name I was a geek in the 90s I’d always dress like the eighties and I was really trendy and I’m 39 and I am still dressing to the beat of my own drum

Marste went out of business a couple of years ago and I don’t think her jewelry brand is still in business, unless it’s something that she didn’t launch yet. I still have my MUG singles, the Manny MUA collab and the Kathleen Lights highlighter palette which I used today. I ordered the colorful matrix palette and 7 loose pigments when I found out they were closing. Everything is on 40% discount. I think the drama she got herself into over the years was also something that hurt her business. It put me off from the brand, but I decided to go ahead and take advantage of the going out of business sale because the brand was on its way out. I wish her the best in her future goals. I think she needs to have a better team behind whatever business she does. People who are well educated in market research, finance, accounting, product marketing, etc so they can lead her in the right direction. In the past she said that she wanted a portion of MUG sales to women suffering domestic violence so maybe she can have a brand focused around supporting that cause. 🙂

Omw, this eyelook is A1, I really got into BH Cosmetics because of you and the Royal Palette, I now embarrassingly have around 8 of their palettes and all are amazing!! Really enjoyed your take on everything. Please do a look with the Makeup Geek shadows, I dont own this brand so I'm excited for that one 😃

Makeup revolution is terrible! IMHO. 😭. I can only hope they teach Makeup Revolution a thing or two. MR does have beautiful color stories but once I learn something I am admiring is MR I rule it out.
I think any brand that is not in store is doomed! I would never buy a concealer or foundation on line line unless it came from a store I could return it to if needed. I tried an eyeshadow palette, a bronzer and a highlight when I found Makeup Geek in my Target. I would have never tried her brand otherwise. I just don’t buy indie makeup unless it’s in a store. Anyway, this was years ago. She had a little section and even lip products but Target didn’t even keep it around a year. This was way before the pandemic.
I love the look! This palette is in my makeup basket for the month.

Smitten in Switzerland may be my favorite palette! There are so many options. I've had skin reactions to all but one Revolution product I've tried, so the news does not make me happy. Hopefully the sale will help with distribution - and maybe a more diverse line - and MR won't mess with the formulas.

I do have some makeup revolution palettes, and the tin box palettes are actually good.

I think the challenge with newer social media brands is that customers constantly expect more and different. Unlike bareMinerials that don't need to pump out new products every quarter or every month (like Colourpop), they will *always* have a customer base and have solid line of base products, newer brands don't have that advantage.

I just purchased the BH Passion in Paris palette last month from Ulta after I heard they filed for bankruptcy. I had heard a lot of people say it was great and I love blues/purples. = ) I'd love to see you do a video on your Makeup Geek eye shadows.

I think another point is marketing, if you don‘t have the name recognition of urban decay or mac you need influencer marketing to survive, and bh and mug didn‘t do that a lot

I thought bh was already being sold at ulta... given it was limited and the ones where I am didn't maintain it well. Also I loved you used matterhorn I also struggle on how to use that color
