My dad was one of Benny’s favorite recording engineers, that classic radiator-style mic was Dad’s design. 😎
Dad said how Benny was always advocating for fair and good treatment of the black musicians on the tours, at hotels, restaurants, and venues. Benny was a real leader there, too.

Congrats on the book Polyphonic I just watched Ken Burns documentary Jazz on swing and history was made twice that day on January 16th, 1938 after Bennie Goodman’s famous concert at Carnegie Hall members of Goodman’s band raced uptown to the famous Savoy Ballroom to see if Count Basie could best the famous drummer Chick Webb who had beaten them a year earlier in 1937. Keep up the great work man this is a very informative channel on types of music and I love it

please do more videos about the Swing Era. it's one of the most overlooked eras in Jazz history today, if not music history ...

i just listened to parts of the carnegie hall concert, it's fantastic, thank you. please consider making videos about legendary concerts by artists at the peak of their powers, like live at leeds by the who or the woodstock concert by jimi hendrix, or the prison concert by johnny cash. i'm sure you know of so many more.

Benny Goodman is great. My personal favorite is Glenn Miller. "In The Mood" is such an iconic tune from the swing era.

Sing, Sing, Sing is arguably the first true drum standard in popular music. Gene Krupa's drumming on that track is among the most defining in the history of the drum kit as we know it and made him one of the most quintessential drummers for anyone who sits on the throne to observe and admire. Very few drummers before him (besides like Baby Dodds) innovated as much as he did there.

Sing, Sing, Sing is one of my favorites! In fact, I have an electro-swing remix of one of Benny Goodman's recordings as the ringtone for my phone and have performed to that remix in an improvised burlesque show. It's positively joyous and I adore it.
