This is why I made little foam shelters for the strays in my area. I feel so bad for them out there. It is 0 degrees Fahrenheit where I live right now. The cats have been using them but there’s been a couple brawls out there in the middle of the night to see who gets to stay in the shelter and that makes me feel bad for the one that loses so I built more of them.

Edit: for anyone wondering how to make the shelter u need to get a foam cooler like they use for dry ice and cut a hole in the side of it 6 inches above the ground that is just big enough for the cat to crawl inside. Then u put straw/hay inside the bottom because it repels moisture unlike blankets and towels so it keeps them warmer. Then u set it on a couple planks underneath the cooler so that it’s not sitting directly on the ground. I put a brick on the top of the cooler so it won’t blow away and that’s it. It’s really easy and I had a bunch of coolers sitting around from ordering steaks so I used those instead of throwing them in the trash.

We have 4 cats. Our most recent rescue lost both his ears to frostbite as a kitten. We rescued him in the spring and Thankfully hes never had any desire to go outside. But our other 3 are 3 season outdoor cats ( we live on a farm) and they argue with us daily, trying to convince us its warm enough to go out. They are relentless until we finally open the door, they last 30 secs ( Canadian Winter) then high tail it back inside and dont argue the rest of the day. I shared this vid with my husband because some of these cats are just like ours lol.

I remember being a cat sitter and one of the cats walked out on the balcony when it had snowed. There was this pillow on it which had become snowy. She very gently put her paw down on it, then turned around and went inside. She left behind a perfect paw print in the snow. It was so cute.

My country buddy recently saved a young adult cat from the freezing cold. Temps got down to -20 at night. No one knows how long this poor kitty was abandoned out in the cold. Now he's happy living with his newfound friend 😻 🐈‍⬛️❤
