Your camera is rarely your problem. Good lighting makes any camera look 100x better!

You'll even notice the camera looks smoother after I turn on the light. That's because when a webcam is trying to process low light, it drops frames.

For anyone whining, "but Harris, I don't like gaming with a light in my eyes, boo hoo!" Suck it up. Do you want to be a pro streamer? This is what it takes. Or, "but Harris, Shroud doesn't have a light in his face, waaaaa!" Are you Shroud? No. Talk to me when you are Shroud.

Thank you so much Harris. I was stressing over what kind of things to get lighting wise, and I was going to post to you asking about it, but did a quick search and found this video. I had no idea what kind or how much lighting to buy. I will be getting a camera upgrade, but just from a very old 720p webcam to a 1080p. I can't thank you enough for your videos, they've been essential in me getting things in order and starting to head toward success.

Having the background darker than the foreground is good advice if you have a spacious room. My wall is right behind me so the light in my face lights up the wall as well and the wall is white. I tend to blend a bit into the background with that setup.

I got an IKEA led reading light that clamps to my monitor arm and then wrapped it in baking paper to smooth the light out. Overall cost was around $10 and made a huge difference!
And ofcourse a slight color correction helps a lot too! Lower a bit of the whites (especially with the c920 xD ) and just get some more colors in just makes it look so much better.

I spent $0 by taping a white sheet of paper to my wall and pointing my old desk lamp to it, low spec but it works.

I personally use the Logitech C922 and the BRIO. I have two studio lights with soft boxes point at the ceiling and three different Philips Hue Lights that can color can be changed through a command by anyone in the chat on my Twitch channel. Here is the thing, I am a photographer but personally, I know how to set up my video setting. Play around yours before expending the money on more expensive equipment. That is my advise. The last tip was perhaps the most logical one, but THE most important!

just tried the shoplight idea since I already have one, and DANG, works like a charm as a softbox. thanks for the idea. Also for the settings on the camera. the C922 Pro has never looked better.
