Hope and never give up your humanity, the ending is pure law of attraction that materializes in that man

Cormac McCarty is an incredible writer.
Blood Meridian and Suttree is a start.
Peace on earth.

We had to read this book for this class on the Anthropocene and it was paralleled to something like Oryx and Crake and Vandermeer's Annihilation and looking at man's relation to the environment. I really liked your review, it's certainly a present day classic in the making!

Thank you! Just read this after seeing the film when it was released at the cinema many years ago now. I'm a burgeoning fan of McCarthy 's work and thought Blood Meridian was the best fiction I'd ever read!

There is a passage where the Man says there was a blinding light across the sky then a series of dull thuds. I took this to be reference to a comet (or the like). This would also explain the ash clouds and lack of sunlight. It doesn't necessarily rule out other options though ...

As you say, it doesn't really matter to the story but, in my mind, knowing it was a natural event, rather than our own destructiveness, makes the humanity we see that more poignant

I read this book once a year. So depressing and so amazing.
