In the show, he doesn't control the animals, he communicates with them. He can also communicate with Homelander and other humans, it's in the dialogue of the show.

He can’t control humans.
He can barely control himself.

He can't control them, he just talks to them. And it's pretty obvious in the show that he is _very_ popular with sea creatures.

If the deep was able to control people’s minds, Vought totally would’ve turned him into a complete covert ops machine rather than some dope on TV 😂😂

I think we should all collectively take a nap

i like to imagine the restriction is psychological. the deep isn't really that smart, so i doubt hed realise his powers worked on other creatures, so he just never tried it.

It was a weird moment years ago when I saw someone point out that despite calling almost everything that lives in the ocean 'fish', any two fish can be more different from each other than humans are from cats.

I wish I could talk to lobsters. That would be a really cool day at Red Lobster.

I don't know why the Deep doesn't go live in the ocean. He just loves the attention I guess, or too much of a coward.

Lobsters are arthropods. Dolphins are vertebrates, within the broader clade chordata. The last common ancestor of chordates and arthropods, is the exact same last common ancestor as between chordates and molluscs(which includes octopus) and said last common ancestor was far, far older then just 360 million years.

350 is one massive underestimate. Lobsters are protostomes and dolphins are deuterostomes, the two opposite branches of the Bilaterian family tree. The last common ancestor of Bilaterians likely existed closer to 600 million years ago.

Hey the times you say difrent animals share a common ancestor is really wildy off... arcopterigii and sarcopterigii(aka fish that evolved into mammals) are twin clades and makes waaay more sense to have them share a common ancestor sooner than with an arthropod like a lobster or a mollusc like an octopus

I think you got the years wrong. A lobster is an invertebrate, meaning it split off from, which a dolphin is, roughly 5-6 hundred million years ago during the Cambrian period. Whereas with fish, there is actually a lot of different kinds, but if you want to include every fish, than it would be roughly 380 million years ago when the first tetrapods came onto land. Also, for octopi they split off I only a bit before lobsters, although since mollusks don’t fossilize well, it could at most be like 650-700 million years ago.

It literally says he can communicate not that he can control them He just happens to be pretty much good friends with a lot of aquatic life.

Imagine if he V-Up the ocean and the communicate with them to overthrow the land mammals.
