Up until the fart, Naruto was actually using a lot of tactical strategies like using shadow clone to catch akamaru then transforming himself as akamaru to trick kiba and then that whole sequence of him transforming into kiba, then faking getting knocked out and transforming "back" to akamaru making kiba doubt his senses.

Yes, the fart ruined it but it was actually a cool fight up until that point.
