In this video, we'll show you how to thread modern 70mm film, featuring DTS 5.1 surround sound. Unlike magnetic soundtrack film, DTS 70mm is still being produced and is the format for all modern 70mm releases, including The Hateful Eight, Tenet, and Licorice Pizza. This film allows for some of the sharpest projected images in cinema, with only the mighty IMAX 15/70mm having higher resolution. In this video we will show you how to thread this film on the DP70/AAII Norelco 35/70 projector.

I appreciate your interest in motion picture film projection. You have proper etiquette, like keeping film off the floor, and checking film loop sizes to avoid film breakage or scratches. I have 11 years of 35mm film projection experience at 4 different movie theaters. I enjoyed it very much, but got laid off in 2010 when they went digital. Norelco projectors are some of the very best 70mm projectors ever built. I never got to run one before, and never got to run 70mm film either, until I got invited into a IMAX projection booth, and the projectionist walked me through the complicated and long film path, and showed me how to clean and thread the IMAX 70MM projector and guidance film rollers. I was excited and confused at the same time, but got the experience of threading the big projector, moving it up about 15 feet above my head, and starting the show. At the show end, I brought it back down, and started the film rewind process, and ran the print again afterwards for the next show. I felt like a kid in a candy store, and literally went nuts, but not in a bad way. Enjoyed every minute of it.

I miss DTS it seemed like the sound was so much louder back then and powerfull i know PCM is better but it just doesnt seem to have nearly the same effect of DTS on 35mm and 70mm

1:20 DTS reader DOES NOT READ ANY AUDIO AT ALL FROM FILM...! It reads a timecode that is used to synchronize a special CD player containing CD-ROMS in which digital DTS audio is stored, then decoded and amplified
