It's good to hear a different perspective and I did not know the mx keys had a proximity sensor feature. but I would go with the keychron as I should get some kind of typing feedback other than the generic membrane feel when I'm spending more than $100. but it was great to hear your take on it.

This Keychron reminds me of the before 2000s keyboards... the height is unreal

The height difference is insane. I have the MX Keys--both the membrane and mechanical versoins. And the mechanical version is much lower than the Keychron, which I do like.

Not only does the MX (like most Apple style keyboards) feel disgusting, but the ergonomics are bad, and can cause pain in your finger joints from heavy typing caused by constantly bottoming out.

This is such an odd comparison to me. Like, these are two completely different styles of keyboards designed for completely different things. Testing and figuring out which one fits your spesific needs is a good idea but comparing them to eachother I dont get. Both have their place, but they certainly do not occupy the same place and I dont really see how one considering one of these likely considers the other too.

The MX one is made to be a replacement/upgrade for mac boards, and obviously goes for the same style. Its form over function and you arent supposed to tinker with it at all. I do have a similar type of low profile keyboard but its basically only because it fits really well in my travel setup and takes up very little space in the carrying case. Practical, stylish and portable but not a very good experience for neither gaming nor productivity imo. Relatively speaking ofc.

The K4 on the other hand is meant as a entry level base unit to get into custom mechanical keyboards. You can use it completely stock and many are very happy with it, but imo it doesnt turn into a good keyboard until you near double its cost (which is still cheap in a world where premium key caps alone can cost 500 dollars) in good replacement parts and spend alot of time tuning it to your liking. Its a hobbyist keyboard, a frame to build upon.
