Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the Hopkins Nite-Glow trailer wiring adaptor. What this wiring is gonna do is pretty straightforward. It's simply just gonna let you come from a seven-way round type connector that's, you know, installed on your vehicle and reduce it down to a five-way flat. And this end will also allow you to plug in a four-way flat type trailer connector as well. So you can have both your bases covered there.

There's two variations of this exact same connector and the only difference is gonna be one will come with a cap like this here and the other one won't. Kinda up to you if you want it or not. My thought is if you're gonna be leaving this in the vehicle, probably not a huge deal with the cap but you could always pull that off I guess and put it on your trailer side if you wanted to as well but you know, that choice is gonna be completely up to you. What this is gonna do is really, really simple. You know, you'll plug into your seven-way and it's going to eliminate some of the unnecessary signals that you don't need for a five-way flat or a four-way flat.

So us having the five-way plugged in right now we'll get our taillights, our brake lights, our turn signals, and then that fifth function would be our backup lights or reverse lights. So a lot of times you'll see these on the five-ways on boats that have surge brakes they need that signal to lock out the actuator or people using utility trailers with maybe putting some lights on the back, reverse lights or something like that. And the same is gonna hold true if you have a four-way flat connector. Like I said, you can plug that four-way flat in here and you know, get all those signals too. So just your turn signals, your brake lights and your taillights.

And this does have the night glow feature. I don't know, I have a big sunny, bright sunny day today but the ends are actually going to have a red light in there on this end and on the seven way side. So you know, pretty cool you get a visual there make sure you're getting power back here and you know, maybe be a little easier to disconnect at nighttime or something along those lines. When it comes to actually picking out an adapter you know there's a ton of 'em on the market and some are pretty similar. Other ones are a little bit different and you know, I feel like with this one it will work in just about any situation.

Little bit of extra wire or length to work with never hurts. But I feel like this would be particularly useful for those of you that tow a bunch of different trailers and you never really know what you're gonna hook up to so to speak. Or if your actual vehicle's seven-way connector is located kind of in a funny spot. I know some of the 4Runners, the Toyotas, it sounds like they're off to the side and kind of out of the way and a lot of people have issues with, you know, their trailer wiring actually being able to reach or it's super tight and people are afraid it'll, you know, get damaged or disconnected while on transit. So this will give you that little bit of extra length. You know, if you stretch it out completely it's going to be three feet so that should be more than enough and since it's coiled even if you don't need the extra length, like you know, in our situation today it's not absolutely necessary that we need it, but it's not hurting anything. You know, the coiled style is gonna keep it up off the ground and prevent it from dragging and things like that. Being that I mentioned the 4Runner and I said because it seems like a lot of people are using this adapter for them. We actually have one here today so figure might as well kind of elaborate on it a little bit. Definitely makes sense 'cause that factory connector is all the way over here so I could see where people run into issues not having enough length of trailer wire to make that connection. So, you know, just give you a visual pulling on the cord just a little bit that's gonna bring it all the way out past your trailer hitch and that should give you more than enough length to hook up to just about any trailer. If you're somebody that knows what trailer you're gonna be pulling and your seven-ways in a good spot and you know you're not
