Installing King Pins Front Brakes and Ken Davis Modern Shocks on a 1930 Ford Model A Part 3

In this video, I remove the old king pins, brakes, and shocks on my 1930 Ford Model A Town Sedan. I am installing Ken Davis Monroe Shocks instead of rebuilding or getting rebuilt Model A shocks. Be sure to see Part 1 and Part 2 if you have not seen them yet.

On the brakes, I am doing something different instead of replacing the linings on the shoes with the OEM style web linings. The video will explain the route I took.

This is not a step by step video as there are already plenty of those out there. I will however be expanding just a little bit on the installation of the Ken Davis shocks as I have not seen a full video on those yet.

When I am not making images for my normal (if there is such a thing) bodies of work as a photographer, I make plenty of fun videos for my Model A that you can find on this channel too. Be sure to check them out.

As to gear, I shoot a variety of full frame Nikon cameras and lenses. Most everything is shot on a tripod to produce the sharpest images possible.

My 1930 Ford Model A Town Sedan has eyebrow fenders and still has the original interior. It's certainly worn but it still is functional. I have rebuilt the driveline, suspension, and tie rods, installed a modernized Model A motor with oversized intake valves, insert bearings, and a high compression head. I also have a lightened flywheel and V8 clutch. The car comfortably cruises at 50MPH but I've had it up to 60MPH. I have also insulated and installed sound deadener which has made the car enjoyable to be in even at 90 degrees.

The banjo makes for period correct music! Flatt & Scruggs would definitely appreciate and approve! Oh, yeah, the work on the car is cool also! Keep up the great videos!

Awesome! Now you have me thinking about removing my original shocks that are so, so at best and installing the shocks you installed. I was able to do all my brakes last year and it made a great chance in my stopping ability. I also had to get new cast iron rear drums. They work great. This winter is the 7 tooth steering column, 9 inches of slop is getting to me.Thank you for A videos. Please be safe and enjoy.

I really like a vehicle that can be maintained at home. Does that make me a Scrooge, a penny pincher or a DIY'er? Maybe all of them. Happy Motoring!

I did not see a lock washer on the lower shock bracket. I would either use red Locktite or a longer bolt with washers. Just my two cents buddy!

Just found your awesome site. Well done Ken. You explained it all very well. I’m just in the process of building a rear set for my 31 Leatherback Victoria. I like doing things myself, so I decided to build my own set.
I’m 79 and have lots of time on my hands.
Are you going to put rear ones as well?
Keep up the great work you are doing on your videos as well as the work on your A.
Best wishes, PaulB
