I was skeptical at first but this rig is pretty cool. Great review as usual John, you are the man with the plan! Love your guitars and the setup you have there. It feels like we are in the living room with you which is a cool thing. And you love this stuff as much or more than we do. Thanks again and keep the good content coming our way!

I just saw one of these in a local pawn shop for $150 in great shape. Sounds like a steal to me! I'm buying it for myself tomorrow!

Am I the only one who hates it when the camera bounces around every time they change the shot???

For 25+ years I was one of the most insufferable Fender tube amp snobs you could ever hope to have a nightmare about. A friend in Texas was raving about his new Line 6. So I set out to inflict maximum torture on an unsuspecting Guitar Center staff. I had a dozen of the amps it is supposed to model put next to it and about 30 pedals. I wasnt allowed to look at which one was which, and did the taste test. I got almost every one wrong and was so furious at myself that I bought it. I've since pretty much customized all the presets and if you take your time to either match tones with ones you love or live out or dream rig fantasies and create your own, you can get it so close to whatever you are trying to emulate that if you're playing along, you gotta mess up to hear the difference. Turn the freakin tweeter off, unless you're doing acoustic or keyboard, hook it up to your computer for complete control and it's nice to actually see the pedal or amp you're going for and virtually have a high end music store as your playground. If you would have told me 20 years honestly, I dont think I could ever go back to heavy tube amps and a million pedals that I'd lug all over the planet losing pieces along the way. I got this thing sounding sick, its roadworthy, light, takes seconds to set up for sound check, loud as all hell and for someone who never in a million years would think I'd play shit is off the chain and you can wander surprisingly far from it. In a 500 capacity size club during soundcheck, I walked off stage to the other side of the place, out the front doors and made it almost an entire block before the signal was totally lost. If you're a pro gear junkie and have an open enough mind to try it, well, do it. Best amp I've ever owned.

It should also be noted that you can turn the tweeters off.

Just call it a Helix combo, it’ll sell a million more units since people have a bad smell from previous Spiders 🕷

Another cool feature you can choose the AMP cabinet and get different amps not sure how many.

You're right. I have an older Spider amp and it has the same issue - if you snap to the wrong preset from one that was kind of quiet, the next one might blow your doors off (and I mean knobs right/12 kind of loud!). I thought by now they would have addressed that. They do warn you but you still never know with that many presets when you will run across a nasty one.

Is it easy to make a line6 amp sound bad? Yeah honestly it is. But are there some killer tones, tons of variety, inspiration, and education in there as well. They reward experimentation, and they can take you to a lot of great places. Other amps like the katanas are definitely easier to make sound good, but the time for knee-jerk shitting on line6 gear ended about a decade ago.

Obviously this is not an amp for a professional musician, but I always suggest these amps for my students because they always keep things interesting for beginners and they won't kill one's bank account. Anything that keeps newbies engaged and excited is aces with me.
For what they are, and what they cost they are Awesome.

If this is the first amp you own, cool.
After about 3 hours of playing on this, you will be in the market for your second amp.

I've played 1 of these and I gotta say, its pretty awesome. It has some good tones. If your on a tight budget the 60w is good bang for your buck
