I was working on a government ship docked at pier 34 (Matson Pier) when the Hokule'a departed on her 3 year voyage in 2014. I was fortunate to be on the same ship that returned to Oahu (pier 20) in April when I found out the Hokule'a was returning. I arranged to take the day off from work, making my way to Magic Island at 04:00 am 06.17.2017 to get a great seat to view the festivities. I am not native Hawaiian, but I had the good fortune to be surrounded by hundreds of native Hawaiians speaking in their native language, and listening in on the stories of Hawaiian pride and culture. The welcoming chants (E Komo Mai) sent chills down my spine as soaked in the spirit that is Hawaii. What a fantastic day! I enjoy your video, which has enhanced many of the photo's I took of the special day for Hokule'a. Welcome home to the boat and crew!
