I don't believe this explanation is accurate. In the case of escheat where a property owner dies intestate, the property is sold at auction and the funds are held for one year in which time the heirs can step forward and claim the property otherwise it reverts to the state. I am sure there are other scenarios as well where the state gets to keep your property.

So after I claim my unclaimed property do I get the deed to the property?
