States of Confusion: Why Americans Don't Understand Each Other

How much do we really know about the rest of the country? More than half of Americans have been to 10 states or fewer.

In reality, we may not understand each other or our country as well as we think. Our new video explains...

Can you say something meaningful about Idaho without mentioning potatoes? Could you muster up a sentence about Iowa without referencing corn?

How Americans see each other is often more caricature than reality. Part of the reason: our understanding of the rest of the country is often shaped more by media than by real-life experience. And that comes with negative consequences. Research shows that it’s increasingly leading us to misunderstand each other.

And, in a country full of red states and blue states, those cultural judgments often bleed into political ones.

I like this too. As a native of Iowa, I can attest there's a lot more to the state than people think, and yes, having the politicians always around does get old. But we're patient. There is so much anger, which is fueled by social media, that is harming the nation. People love to spread lies and conspiracy theories, and are willing to believe the worst. It's crazy.

One of the only good things about joining the military is you'll truly find out how diverse the country is. You'll meet former gangbangers from the hood in Baltimore, or a farmhand from Missouri, a fisherman from Alabama, a tech genius from Minnesota, God only knows what kind of people youll meet. Just by meeting and befriending your comrades, you'll learn about different lifestyles from around the country, including things like food, music, fashion, accents, pretty much anything you think is a norm, you'll meet someone from somewhere where it's different.
But that being said, fuck the state of the New Jersey.
