MSND Part 2 of 9

Chinese/American co-adaptation of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream produced in two languages on two continents by the University of Maryland and the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts.

In 2012 co-directors Professor Mitchell Hébert and Professor Yu Fanlin created a visually stunning adaptation of the play without being able to speak each other's languages. The Chinese cast performed their scenes in Chinese using traditional Chinese Opera style while the American cast used traditional bluegrass music and the emerging form of aerial silk ballet in their performances.

The two halves were stitched together scene-by-scene in rehearsals at the University of Maryland in August 2012, and then the play was presented in Chinese and English to sold-out houses in the USA and China.
