The President isn't supposed to be running America, first of all.
The critical power positions in the US are the Supreme Court justices, and leaders in the House and Senate, along with the President.
It seems to me that the threat is consolidation around narrow interests, not lack of consolidation!
I don't know if being conspiratorial helps, here. Most of it is out in the open.
We're in a post Citizens United political climate, and isn't it interesting the conspiratorial types tend to side with the party that controlled the Citizens United issue?

lol history repeats itself even if it’s forgotten. The Iran-Contra conflict (which I think is top 2-3 known greatest Americans scandals) that plagued, ephemerally, the Reagan presidency was done so almost entirely behind his back. He was showing signs of early onset dementia during the last years of his presidency. Raegan claimed he ‘did not recall’ over 100 times during interviews in the early 1990s while Iran-Contra inversions were still on going. 1) because he didn’t know the answers 2)because he couldn’t remember names, dates, or even basic information about his cabinet and conversations. So, who was really running the government when members within his admin were quietly speaking about his cognitive issues, only to publicly stare them into the 1990s? The guy was a mush brain.

I guess what I’m saying is the less feeble and cunning a leader, the easier they become to manipulate, almost mailable from all angles. It’s part of the reason why trump, a wild card unhinged galore, is hard to control or manipulate by an establishment or bureaucracy. But that’s not necessarily a good thing.
