It's a fact that government agencies fund at least half of the research leading to most major drugs. Then, the government lets Big Pharma patent the resulting drug and sell it back to the taxpayers at an exorbitant cost.
A SOLUTION: Several years ago, Yale and Raplh Nader's group conducted a study showing that if government funded ALL drug research and ELIMINATED DRUG PATENTS, it would save many billions of dollars a year in health care costs.
The drug companies could still sell all drugs. But they would have to compete in the free market. Of course, the price of medications would then be a small fraction of the price now.
Keep in mind that the system in place now is government-subsidized "capitalism" that allows Big Pharma to gouge us all while reaping exorbitant profits. It is truly an insane system.

The medicine thing of jacking up prices. In India, the government has their own scientists developing medicines, also indian government has laws that forces companies to release patents, also pays the companies to make sure prices of certain drugs are less in the market
