You did “remove” the rope.
The problem is in your presentation of the problem saying “remove the ring WITHOUT removing the rope”…. You’ll have to word that differently.

Something like “remove the ring without taking the ropes off of the posts” and those ropes look more like rubber bands. Hence why you can manipulate them in such manner.

If the elastic rope was nailed on the outside of each post, this would not work as the elastic rope is obviously looped over the posts.

What about if you put the ring over one pole. Then put the ring up between the bands. Tilt the ring to the outside and it should come off
