Even if on accident I kinda like the idea of the bird stopping to stare at you for a few seconds, it oddly builds tension and if done right could create really stressful moments.

As a bird owner the birdie scares actually just cracked me up. Reminds me of my cockatiel when he doesn't like my guests. He once fought a friend of mine for her plate of food and won lol. Hes my sweet boy though.

The way Opila bird would stop and stare at you before attacking is what some preditors do in the wild. They stalk their prey to study them before attacking. which is a pretty cool detail.

What’s scary about Opila Bird is how she acts (or at least moves) like an actual bird. As a bird owner myself, I can tell you that if my parrot was 10 times the size of a cat and came at me, I’d be screaming in terror.

Opila bird just kinda.. stalking you and not killing you straight away is actually something i want more in horror games. that scared me more than if he were to just outright kill you.

I think there's an art to game design that is being lost over time.

That being: actually properly communicating what the players are supposed to be doing. Like instead of just slamming text on screen that says hit this button to do this and expecting them to remember, you teach them with proper puzzles one at a time and then put it to the test with a harder puzzle that combines those things. That way you don't have Jack not remembering there's a button to summon the drone right to him, and having to trial and error the last bit with an enemy that keeps killing him repeatedly because the game gives you absolutely zero indication what you're supposed to do. Like when was platforming introduced before it literally became life and death? Moving floors were never established!

And then they throw in an invisible wall because you didn't escape the "right" way.

Watching Ross (RubberRoss) designing Mario Maker levels really gave me an appreciation for good game design.
