Bulgarian BMP-2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle

The Dutch army has one BMP-2. It was a gift of the Bulgarian army who temporarily used it in Bosnia during the SFOR-mission. A platoon of Bulgarian engineers served with the Dutch battalion (1997). This BMP-2 (former DDR) will serve as an armored ornament at army base ‘t Harde.

The BMP-2 was not a standard armored vehicle in the Bulgarian army, since the country produced its own BMP-23 and BMP-30. In the nineties, Bulgaria bought ten BMP-2’s (ex-DDR) from a Czech company, which were used in Bosnia. After the end of the SFOR-mission, they were not taken home.
