Remembering Nichelle Nichols

The actress, known for breaking barriers for Black women in Hollywood through her role on ‘Star Trek,’ has died at 89.

Star Trek is one of the reasons of I joined the U.S. Navy. Nichelle Nichols was one of the reasons I majored in English. LT Uhura is who I modeled myself after during my Navy career.

Thank you Ms. Nichols. You had an impact on my life. May your memory live long and prosper.
