JLI Skokie - GREAT DEBATES

This video is created to spread awareness for GREAT DEBATES, the new 6 week course from the Jewish Learning Institute, with instructor Rabbi Yochanan Posner at Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie. The short video features Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, Professors Jonathan Sarna, Lawrence Schiffman, and Jan Feldman, and attorney Nathan Lewin, all who contributed to this course’s curriculum.
This course is called GREAT DEBATES and it explores six fundamental conflicts that pitted the greatest Jewish minds against each other, including several historic issues that are still being debated today.
Study the gripping storylines of six fascinating eras, and understand the intellectual tension which drives them, and see their effect on the most fundamental of Jewish beliefs.

GREAT DEBATES will present these six debates:
Dead Sea Scrolls - Dead Sea Sect vs Rabbinic Interpretation
Suicide at Masada - Militant Nationalism vs Religious Institutionalism
The Maimonidean Controversy - Faith vs Reason
Renewal of The Sanhedrin - Active Messianism vs Passive Messianism
Chasidism - Divine Transcendence vs Divine Immanence
Separation of Church and State - Religion in Public vs Religion as a Private Affair

GREAT DEBATES is a six-week course that meets once a week.
There are four choices at Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie, 4059 Dempster Street Skokie IL 60076.
Option 1: Six Sunday Mornings, starting Sunday, October 29, 10:30am-12:00pm
Option 2: Six Sunday Evenings, starting Sunday, October 29, 7:00pm-8:30pm
Option 3: Six Thursday Mornings, starting Thursday, November 2, 10:30am-12:00pm
Option 4: Six Thursday Evenings, starting Thursday, November 2, 8:00pm-9:30pm
