2.5 inch hdd or sata ssd can be added, the tools for mounting the drive are included in the box, and the slot is right there on the left of ram slot, its labelled "hdd".

Here is an answer to all those who are looking for maximum RAM capacity on the Asus Vivobook 15 X515JA series laptops, the laptop supports a maximum of 20/24 GB RAM depending on whether the RAM soldered on your motherboard is 4/8 GB. Though Asus suggests that this series supports a maximum of 12 GB RAM, You can literally add a 16 gb RAM on the single RAM slot given on the motherboard. The system will work like a charm. I did the same despite ASUS telling me not to do that, but yes it works and helps a lot in multitasking (I am using multiple applications like 2-4 chrome windows with 80-100 tabs per window, word, excel and R, simultaneously and the system works very well. Hope this will help someone who has invested a lot of his time searching for the solution instead getting confused reading various suggestion on the internet.

Many thanks for the detailed description of what is what within the laptop.
Some may think it's unnecessary but there are many who value a second confirmation of which component is which.

Thank you for the helpful video, I've installed RAM in the past I just wanted to get an idea of everything's position inside and also make sure there weren't any screws hiding in weird places.

I've just bought the Ryzen 3/256GB SSD/4GB ram version of this laptop and I got it for a good price in the Easter sale and I'm happy with it for what I paid. Good to see that it's got a 2.5" SATA bay so that when I upgrade my storage I can keep my NvME stick and just get an 2.5" SSD and stick it there. I have just ordered another 4GB of RAM online as I felt that was the bottleneck and will be installing it when it comes, I didn't pay much for it so specs will be decent once the RAM is upgraded.

I subbed!

3:50 I've spent 2 hours trying to get the back off, for some reason it won't come off (yes I have unscrewed all screws it's still stuck in the middle). Watching this video and particulary that time stamp I realise that mine doesn't have the attachments for the SSD 2.5 I was gonna put in either... I think potentially you can by some extra kit to attach it but at this time, considering I can't get the back open I'm thinking of just calling it quits... It works fine I just wanted more space, but probably not worth damaging it for it.. Which I might already have tbh... Anyway what I was gonna say was I wish I watched this video before I started, it didn't help me open it unfortunately but you pointing out the lack of connecting the 2.5 SSD was an eyeopener.

Thank you for this... any info where from I can get the kit (rubber brackets/case and ssd-hdd flatflex cable) to install 2.5'' SATA SSD -I have spare one ? I've looked quite some time, only found that from Asus England and with delivry it costs more than a brand new NVEMe 500GB.

Thanks for the video, it is very informative. I am just wondering why did you have to reinstall Windows 10, instead of cloning it to the bigger size SSD and use the full size of the new SSD? I think if you insert the SSD's in a USB case, then it is possible to do the cloning using a PC.
