Honestly these new high tech bikes just suck all the fun and joy out of cycling. I'd hate having to take my bike to the shop every time I needed a bit of, what used to be, some easy maintenance.

Real! Not even a good looking bike compared to that Scott. It's just an Instagram bike. Rim brake bikes are so easy to maintain compared to these integrated £15, 000 poser bikes.

Marketing never talks about this. Easy maintenance should be one of the major selling points of a high end bike - not these days. It's the modern cultural attitude of design especially since made in SE Asia now dominates, and then on-top of that you get screwed on price.

That's called designed obsolescence, rain/mud ruins the bearings, work shop makes the cash from the big labour charges and specialised sell some more bearings which they'll make impossible to source when they release their next bike.

Similar with my 2023 BMC Roadmachine - lots of sand/grit gets in there - way more than other bikes I've owned. One of the most significant reasons I bought it? No integrated bars. Easy to drop off the fork, clean, re-grease. 10 minute job. Modern bikes are not the problem, but useless designs for the everyday rider are!!

Or race bikeWith intern routing has got this “problem”. It’s nothing new and nothing special for SL8 only. Boring. Just grease the lower bearing (seat) when building and you will have long time riding.

I'm happy with my new 2nd hand CAAD12. Excellent low budget bike with rim brakes and an excellent be-safe-be-seen frame colour. And I did so because DR encouraged me to do so.

Rim brake 15minutes labour and £50 including the bearings. Integrated disc brake bike 3 hours minimum, hoses, fluid and bearings £300 can’t think why there’s so many people packing in cycling. Maybe there’s a market for old school hose frame clips so you can run hoses externally. I’ve got external cable clamps on my 1972 holdsworth.
