Before you start to tune your car you should always set your base ignition timing. You should reset your base ignition timing after any change to your engine that could affect timing. Examples, Coil Packs, Cam/Crank Sensor, COP, Ignition Box, Cam Shaft, Motor Build, New Turbo, Cal you downloaded, most cars it is easy so just recheck it. I normally verify mine every oil change.

Base igntion is just the sync between the ECU and the Motors Timing, and it is very important.

1. The instructions tell you to verify your base ignition timing. So yes it is very important.
2. You timing could be off. You are running more/less timing than your map is showing you.

I always check my ignition timing after messing with any timing related parts on the car.

so let say you tuned your car without syncing the timing and now you sync the timing does that mean you need a retune?

My question is: Lets say you want 15*.
But you had your distributor out recently and you want to make sure the distributor is angled correctly. Where in the video would you add that step in?

Hello, so I have a 91 miata just finished my boost project on it got the ems4 wired up ready to go I know I'm suppose to sync timing with ecu, but my car isn't starting its backfired acouple times but hasn't actually started. Cranks and everything but no start? Is this due to timing not synced? Any help please!
