My first teacher was having me do all these nursery rhymes and Happy Birthday and all the things that I hated. It took the fun out of it and made it homework. I finally asked him why I had to learn Mary Had A Little Lamb and he told me that because it is so engrained in your head that the notes will make sense because you have a common reference. I told him that ACDC songs are just as engrained in my head as Happy Birthday and if he wanted to keep me as a student, those are the things I wanted to learn. He actually agreed and wrote out the music to Dirty Deeds, Givin' the Dog a Bone and Ride On. Seeing the music on paper while hearing it on my record player made it ALL click. I noticed he made some mistakes. When I played it the way he had it written, it didn't sound right. So I made the changes and next lesson I told him and he smiled, telling me he did it on purpose to see if I was actually reading the sheet or just playing by ear. He promised me that the future would be correctly written and he gave me more songs. Not all ACDC, but good enough that I stayed with it

So so true. Once that theory gets in your brain all music becomes easier. From originally starting on piano now I’m loving guitar and ukulele and it is all easier because of theory knowledge. Loving your work from Bribie Island Queensland. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

I'm concluding grade 5 in the course and fully agree with the points made in this video. Free lessons are great, and the subscription to further lessons is worth every penny. Thank you, Justin! :)

Thanks Justin. I'm already subscribed to the Music Theory course and nearly finished Grade 2 as a refresher for my decades of playing. Thanks again for providing such a rich and amazing guitar resource.

Wow, I’m so glad I found this. As a beginner it occurred to me that a chord is an abbreviated scale, and after that it’s been a fruitless search for someone to confirm that. And here you are. Much appreciated, and I’ll be jumping into the course!

Hey Justin, I just wanted to say that I followed your beginners course 1 year ago, I am now turning 18 years old and first followed your videos when I was 16. Thanks to you I managed to progress a lot in the course of one year, I went from strumming 3-chord Johnny cash songs to playing fingerstyle arrangements by Robert Johnsons, Mississippi John Hurt & many others, I just wanted to say if it wasn't for you

Great stuff JG. Kirk talking about how he wrote the intro to Fade to Black, and Yngwie explaining how Bach taught him the theory he needed to be Yngwie are the two things that first made me pay attention to more than learning licks, magazine execises and songs. HF all.

I saw that you don't have your videos monetised and neither the join button for channel, i think you should atleast ad the minimum of ads on your videos at the end or something plus the join button. I am sure that would help:) Also try to increase the types of currencies on your donate tab. I want to donate but i do not use any of the currency in the options. Anyways great work Keep helping new guitarists!!!!

Awesome logo on the guitar Justin! And it's so relatable the thing you're telling. Each time I recognise something that I learned in a song, it's a moment of excitement (:

My guitar teacher is a great guy, but some of the books I had to start out with were so bland. I worked my ass off playing simplified folk song and classical melodies on the top 2 strings of my guitar and I couldn't help but think "I don't think this is what people are doing on stage" 🤣

I learned a lot more being a part of a student band and playing part in assembling songs and realizing what the actual process of performing music usually entails, and I got to do it all while playing some of my favorite songs

Engaging personal story - I think many of us can relate to learning something about music theory from a rock group. In my case, back in the day, aged 15 or so, I had a Mel Bay book (boring) and two Black Sabbath books (exciting!!). There is so much I learned from the Black Sabbath books, primarily because I was much more wiling to immerse myself in their music. I learned about triplets from "Black Sabbath" (the song), and similar stuff. In fact, to this day, I still reference "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", when I'm doing a complicated arrangement on Guitar Pro, and I want to untangle D.S, D.C and codas, etc. 👍👍

Music theory was the only way for me as my hearing is very poor due to my working environment as a youngster.
I also take the bits I find awkward out of tunes say a Dm, Bb &G7 and try and work out why I like the sound.
For example this only works as a loop to my ear.

Thank You for another video. The title caught my eye, and I look forward very much to checking out the video a bit later, when I can listen without "disturbing the peace", which is, in actuality, an arbitrary ordinance or law, most likely intended to provide leeway and "carte blanche" to "responders" based on "complainers" and the complaints that they "call in" or otherwise may enjoy conveying to possibly tyrannical "gangs", "crowds", "departments", "agencies", "bureaus", "services", or whatever some folks refer to folks that answer those calls are referred to at any given time.

I'll point out, why I refer to the related ordinances or laws as arbitrary.

Allegedly, there is no published noise threshold, that I am aware of at this time. I was informed at one time, that it is up to the dispatched and arriving "officer's" or "officers'" discretion, and that it varies among different neighborhoods in a town or city.

On a humorous and intentionally pompous note, I will speak for James Hetfield and his band-mates, although not in any way shape or form affiliated with them, by saying "You are most certainly welcome Justin!".

Lastly, greetings from Massachusetts, USA, :) _John_

Love your stuff! Just some feedback for what it’s worth - I find I’m way more likely to pay for a course with lifetime access, I just don’t like subscription models because I tend to dip in and out and a lot of time can pass in between

I bet you’d sell more with an option like that - just my two cents

Thanks for your work as always
