To add on to the fact about “Country Roads”, the song starts out: “Almost heaven, West Virginia / Blue Ridge Mountain, Shenandoah River”. Jefferson County, West Virginia’s easternmost county, is the only place in the entire state where you can find Blue Ridge Mountain or the Shenandoah River.

I live atop a hill overlooking the Shenandoah River in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Blue Ridge Mountain is straight across the river from here. Its peak defines the border of Virginia and West Virginia along the eastern edge of Jefferson County.

So we have spiders that jump, fly, spit, swim, dig, fish, cast nets, work together, *and* launch themselves? Imagine if they converged into a single species capable of everything the individual species can do?

Fact suggestion: the fringed jumping spider native to Queensland Australia are pack hunters with behaviors very similar to wolves. Despite requiring a diet of both insects and arachnids to thrive they won't eat other members of their group even when exiling a member, and will even team up with other groups to take out prey. For some reason this is exclusive to the species from Queensland as fringed jumpers from other parts of Australia don't demonstrate these behaviors.
