Constant growth even at the expense of the host. You know, like a tumor or other parasite.

This and the internal abuse of staff are probably the main factors that radicalized people like Adam Conover and Jim Sterling.

They looked into the abyss of brutal hierarchy and said "hard pass"

This is part of why the economy jumps when there's a population boom, and then immediately drops as soon as that generational affect goes away. It's only sustainable if we are constantly having massive wars or tech booms, as those are the two types of events that tend to foster population growth, as soldiers will often try to have children before going to war in case they don't come back, and tech booms usually means an increase in food output to sustain a higher population. Now on the bright side (depending on perspective since we are massively overpopulated as a species), the global population is growing, however the growth rate in the US does not match the inflation rate, and we are already seeing the issues with that. I do not know what type of economy would work better considering, but it's very clear that capitalism doesn't work in the long term in our real life scenario.

Actually not a sustainable or collectively Survivable thing either long term, especially once Technology gets involved.

Cancer also needs infinite growth to keep existing

What a smooth brain question tho, "if theres no more people would we stop being able to throw infinitely more people at problems"

I would be happy with a simple return to local liquidity from the return of the multiplier effect in our towns and cities. If a company can grow so big it encompasses an entire region of the US it has almost assuredly reached the point of net loss for it's working communities.
i.e. every fast food and big box store chain

Stagnation is degradation as shown by other nations who tried to solve the ever growing “problem”

Not to mention our social security net is completely dependent on new workers. It's essentially a bet that production will grow or maintain, if the workforce were to dwindle, social security and Medicaid would be the first on the chopping block. Capitalism is fragile.

1 of 2 things must happen, either there are more people to spend money, or the exiating people spend more money. We have seen how businesses feel about paying workers, seems they better rethink their immigration policies!

We can't have infinite growth on a finite planet.

So then what is the connection between the profiteering mindset of capitalism and population growth? You can’t have profitable returns on an investment or economic growth without a growth in the number of people? Why? Does more consumers automatically equal or is somehow necessary for more economic growth?

I don’t understand this short. Is there a full version of this video?

We need to bring capitalism to space, easy solution.

I don’t think capitalism is “inherently” based on growth. It produces growth very well, which people get used to. You could run a capitalist system with absolute stagnation, but people would be sad if the new iphone they got was the same iphone from 5 years ago.

No we would innovate solutions to the problems.

Capitalism doesn't rely on infinite growth, it just generates vast amounts of wealth. If our populations were stable, and our economies weren't able to grow, though I'm not sure there is a practical limit to economic growth frankly, capitalism would still function.

Artificially throttling our growth, however, would do no one any good. As the west has increasingly abandoned liberalism, and our populations are nearing a collapse, we are going to see ourselves become vastly poorer.

If you want the development of a society you need more people obviously. With a declining birth rate we may produce fewer and fewer goods, get less taxes from the people and therefore less social programs, military spending, science programs etc. less people equals less work, less businesses, and less tax money.
