Показать описание
First session of the Qurʾānic Hermeneutics (Uṣūl al-Tafsīr) Seminar conducted January 24, 2018.
This seminar is a study of the text entitled al-Fawz al-Kabīr fī Uṣūl al-Tafsīr (literally “The Great Victory on Qurʾānic Hermeneutics”), by Islamic India's greatest scholar Shāh Walīullah of Delhi (1114 AH/1703 CE—1176 AH/1762 CE) . This book is a brief but remarkable treatise that lays down his own vision of Qurʾānic exegesis. In this work and others, you will see the bearings of a brilliant, integrationist mind that strives to see the bigger picture and relate all parts to a greater whole, in the end producing a more holistic and integrated vision of religion that eludes many. This seminar will consist of a critical reading and discussion of this text.
