Chopping and Bagging Haylage

With questionable weather ahead, Alan decided to bag some of the 2nd crop hay we have on the farm. Alan had a partial bag left over from bagging the chopped straw, so we hoped to fill it up. Alan and Paul cut 2 different fields of hay. With the hay down, it was time to chop with the Gehl 400 Chopper on the International 1256 tractor. The International 1066 was purring on the bagger while the 820 John Deere hauled chopper boxes.

Loved the footage of the lightning! I love thunder and lightning storms. I'll get up in the middle of the night and go sit in my pickup out in a pasture to watch a lightning storm. My friends think I'm nuts, cuz I was hit by lightning about 10 years ago. My buddies wife says she thinks it did something to me that turns me into a freak of some sort, and my freak feeds off of the storms. She says she doesn't want her husband anywhere near me when it's lightning outside. Who knows! Lol! I have a friend who set bales around the end of the bag just like you did. Some of them suckers figured out they could take a run and get over them because they are rounded. So he took the bales and set them end and pushed them together real tight so there were no gaps. That took care of it. They didn't go over them anymore.

The cows will no doubt enjoy that stuff. Sounds like you need more deer sausage.

Wow! I love this show, it's so realistic. I actually felt like I was getting the work done even though I was just sitting in my chair watching you do it! Thanks for making me feel productive today!

Grass /alfalfa is always a challenge in the fall doesn’t dry down to bale but can make some nice silage . We used an anoculant to get things fermenting left that bag to open last for feeding.

Those were some big thunderstorms. Love to watch them from a distance at night. Those pesky deer are gonna have to be taken care of this fall. Put some good meat in the freezer and let the kids have some memories with you. Love the channel.

I too was going to ask about the manure pump situation but you already answered that. That fine grass is hard to chop in a New Holland Super 717 as well. Frost is on the way. We have Meyers wagons and the grass comes out in big chunks sometimes. You have yo be watching it it doesn't slug the blower.

Watching your video made me nostalgic for the past. I enjoyed watching your older iron out bringing in the crop. I had very similar equipment. I think that bagger might be the best investment on your farm, certainly cuts down the number of small squares you need to make. Great video!

I had forgotten about the offset tops on your wagons, and wondered for a minute about low trees...😂 Great video, Allen. I think it's funny that "everyone" made open auger pick up heads for years, but the new heads for the big choppers have a canopy over the auger and pick up. Gehl shrouded the auger back then. Ahead of their time!👍👍

I double checked today to see if Youtube had changed my subscription for you (just before it brought this video up.) Sorry about the manure problems. How frustrating. Love you guys.
