Health technology assessment (HTA) bodies like NICE produce evidence-based recommendations that guide decisions in health, public health and social care. Real-world evidence has great potential to resolve uncertainties in HTA and improve patient access to effective interventions. Currently the use, acceptability, and quality of real-world evidence studies by HTA bodies like NICE varies significantly. In this presentation, Seamus will provide an overview of the opportunities and challenges of RWE in HTA and introduce NICE’s real-world evidence framework which is designed to improve the quality and transparency of the evidence generated and ensure consistency in its evaluation.
