It should be the law to not operate on an intersex person until they are certain and consensual to it. That goes for any medical issues unless they're life threatening and they are a child.

I was born intersex and doctors did all kinds of surgeries on me at birth. I almost died on the operating table. The doctors asked my mom if she wanted a daughter or a son and when she said daughter that's what they did surgery for. So now here I am identifying as a trans man and I have female genitalia. No ovaries or anything though. And no record of any of the surgeries. Fun times. I didn't even learn about them until recently when I came out to my dad as trans. You truly never know

I had no idea intersex was even a thing before this video, and that terrifies me. I've never been educated on intersex individuals, and I didn't even know situations like this could actually occur. It's sad to know that we aren't educated with this social knowledge, and I'm now going to do some research on intersex individuals so I can have a better understanding. Thanks for this video Buzz Feed. You learn something new every day.

Removing someones genitalia when they are a child for no medical reason is a crime.

I was born a female but later developed male characteristics like a deep voice facial hair and broad shoulders and not getting my period when I was supposed to and I hated myself so much for not being a normal girl. But now I know I'm perfectly amazing

I'm not even sure I've heard of the term intersex before, which is crazy because I'm so exposed to the gender queer community. All this sweeping under the rug is not right :(

I'm intersexed. I've only ever told my best friends, and I think I should tell more people because I was made to feel ashamed of who I was.

If I have an intersex child in the future, I wouldn't have any of those parts removed, I'd let them keep them so they can decide what THEY want to do with them when they're older. :)

When I'm a surgeon I will not remove someone's genetalia without the person's permission.

read a book about a girl who discovered she was intersex called None Of The Above. a really good book, I definitely recommend it.

Intersex woman here and it hurts to know I’ve always been rejected over being born over something I couldn’t control. I’ve always gotten rejected and thrown to the side over it so I try my best to not picture myself in relationships or families but I feel human and I want that so bad 😭

I am a 74 year old straight female, and this is the first time I understood what intersex actually meant. I am accepting of all people what ever their gender identity. I am just learning. It is a shame to have been so ignorant. And to think doctors are as ignorant is appalling. Thank you for this necessary information.

I can't believe that there is a licensed professional that thinks it is okay to just take body parts from someone without consent. even if it is more difficult to address at a later age I think they should be left as they are at birth and get to make the decision for themselves at a later age.

Having your testies removed without your consent, thats a nightmare.

It’s sad that schools don’t teach kids about this. Even if the school thinks it’s not the best material for students in grade 6 or 7, it should still be taught to high school students.
