I really wanted to know what this genre of music was called and I know a few of you did too, but we didn't have an answer. I happened upon a video earlier that I believe describes this technique perfectly. It's called "hocket, " where you take a melody and split up the notes to play over several different instruments. It ranges from 13-14 century monks to Skrillex. Hope this helps.
