„If I were…” is a subjunctive mood used mostly in second conditional which stands for hypothetical situation whereas „If I was…” is used for Past actions and it’s not related to second conditional at all. Natives, especially in the UK, are using less and less subjunctive mood „If I were…” in informal coversations. However, it’s not gramatically correct to use „If I was…” in second conditional instead of subjunctive mood version.

We use Were and Was after If and Wish. Both are correct.

As a native speaker, i can confirm that, if i were' is used much more commonly than, if i was'. It's true
