Thank you for making this man! I really hope to finally learn how to actually produce better, always just playing instead of learning to put it out there

#4 - Learn music. Become a real musician. Learn musical concepts and theory. If you can play with a band or others after you get a little good try it out.

Regarding step 1 - Recreating stuff: without the musical understanding/ theory (eg chords, scales, etc) you don’t get as much out of it.

Thank you so much! It's been few years since I started producing and saw your video on recreation of The Prodigy. Personal circumstances stopped me from joining The Beat academy community. Great I have just joined, started producing and I will just chace my dream. Can't wait for the live in November. Let the beat goes on!

Formidable advice with IMHO a couple of caveats :
I think this is a great idea to try to recreate tracks, but! There really is no specific system to compose melodies, bass lines, or anything else. Every artist has their own way and you gotta figure it out. Also I know a bunch of people able to reproduce a 1:1 copy of a record yet totally uncapable of any creativity, so you gotta balance this out. Edit : I understand for producers specifically it's great tho Another thing I kind of disagree with, is that imitating what's already popular will get you there. I think as a songwriter it's a big misconception and let me explain : in business, we say that the moment someone unveil a secret, it means the market it dead. The moment everyone talks about autotune, autotune is dead. You can hop on a trend and get some success, but you aren't going to stay relevant very long without you yourself innovating or simply bringing something fresh. However, I agree that those are great ideas that I will implement in my workflow as a musician!!!

my advice for those seeking a mentor, find someone who has left the same industry you're currently in rather than someone who is active. They'll hold back less help and advice you'd need.

On recreating music - it’s tough to play the music you hear sometimes. I use audio to midi software to get an idea of what’s being played but most are so terrible. I’m currently using SampLab and Ableton (audio to midi functions) but often the conversions are just wrong. Anybody know of any better ones?

What about copyright when you recreate a currently popular song? Won't the Youtube algo just takedown the video?

Are there songs that are impossible/too difficult to recreate? I don't know whether to balance learning my favourite songs even if they're difficult or just recreate easier songs.
