India Is Changing Its Name To Bharat

India may be changing its name! A special session in parliament may rename the country to Bharat. Bharat is already the name most Indians call India so renaming it would be like Germany changing their name to Deustchland or Japan becoming Nippon. It’s common for places to have their own name and a name that everyone else calls them. For instance: China calls America a name that means “The United States of Beauty, Advantage and Endurance” And we call China “China” which is thought to mean “Land of the Qins”.

It must be confusing in China listening to stories about hostilities with America because they're like "Beautiful Country is threatening to attack us."

In chinese, America is called "Mei Guo" which literally translates to Beautiful Country.

China calls America Mei Guo which literally translates to Beauty Country. A lot of words in Chinese are both nouns and adjectives depending on how you use them.

Fun fact: In Vietnamese, the US is called "Mỹ" which means "beautiful", which comes from "Meiguo" in Chinese as another comment has pointed out. But, a more formal name of the US is "Hoa Kỳ" which means "Flower flag". The origin of the name came from back in the 18th and 19th centuries when US merchant ships first got to Vietnamese ports and the locals saw the flags. At that time, the idea of a 5-pointed star was alien to the locals, so they called it flowers

India isn't actually changing its name, the first article of the constitution reads 'India, that is bharat..' which means that Bharat is already an officially recognized name

I mean Turkey changed its English name into "Turkiye" which is pretty much their OG name "Türkiye" yet almost everybody calls them Turkey, even Turks.

Fun fact: Our constitution already recognises Bharat. It recognizes both Bharat & India, so we aren't exactly changing our name. It has always been there.

Starting a petition to call Dutch people Netherlanders

EDIT: I am from the Netherlands (Nederland) so I can confirm we call ourselves Nederlanders already, we don't call ourselves Dutch, we also don't call ourselves Hollanders. I got taught in school that we got referred to as Dutch because they confused us with the Deutsch (Germans).

As a Chinese, I’ll have to explain that we call United States “美國” or “美利堅” is just because the M sound in America, since “美” means beauty but it also sounds like “may”.

We are not changing name, we just promoting our alternative name more on international platforms

So that you guys be aware, don't misguided like you currently misguided that india is changing it's name from india to bharat, in our constitution it's clearly mentioned india is bharat and Bharat is india, you are misguided because we rarely promote bharat name, we just promoting its name not changing
