The Silent Majority - AKA Trump Supporters - Tom Goss

Today, someone who I have previously worked with declined to work with me because of my 'content.' What they meant to say was, 'because I am gay.' I would love to say this is a new experience, it is not. Almost everything I have ever worked on (Preacher Man, Breath and Sound, Bears, Lover, Make Believe etc…) has been turned away and given a much harder path to being seen because it reflected my personal experience. The experience of someone who is attracted to someone of the same sex.

I wrote this song after the 2016 presidential election and wasn’t going to release it. I felt like everything that could have been said on the matter had been said. Why throw more sadness onto the pile. But I disagree. My only regret is that this song reflects how hard I have always worked to be understanding, rational and level headed. There is no closet that will ever be big enough to hold me. Believe that.

It's not about their having and expressing a voice, which, in fact, has never been silent (and has always been toxic). It's not about their having and expressing the so-called voice of the so-called majority. As human beings, we all belong to a whole. It's not about their having and expressing a voice when, in fact, it's about silencing all other voices by way of a toxic alphabet at the service of those who, in fact, despise life: bans, bombs, bullying, corporate takeover of democracy, divisiveness, environmental devastation, genocide, hate, impoverishment of the many, imprisonment of the poor, self-validating sociopathy, torture and war. It's about establishing an agenda which will muzzle thought and speech, as well as muffle the common heart of compassion, solidarity and political enlightenment.

Hi Tom,

sorry to hear that you are continuing to experience 'content' issues. while i can't say that i agree that 'the christian way is noble, there is no doubt, ' base strictly on history (crusades, etc), i do respect your plea to show love and hope. you are much more understanding than i am - and hope that you can make others believe. i am troubled by the imagery of you going back into the closet after you came out - gays (like me) should never, ever feel as if they need to hide/go back into the closet to make others comfortable.
