Unless you have a locking differential 2 wheel drive means one tire is doing all the work and 4whel drive means 2 wheels are doing all the work. one wheel on the front axel one on the back. It’s possible to get a 4 wheel drive on the two non drivable wheels and the other two will spin in the air or mud.
