What Determines a Baby’s Gender?
Chromosomes is the genetic material which makes us who we are. A human being contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, one pair of which determines gender . A Female contains chromosomes X and X. Whereas males contain X and Y.

Typically, the female egg is genetically encoded to produce only X chromosome. However, men on the other hand, produce millions of sperms. Roughly 50% of the male sperms will be X bearing and other half Y bearing.

If X bearing sperm fertilizes an egg the resulting baby would be a girl and if Y bearing sperm fertilizes then a boy would be conceived.

Differences Between X and Y Sperm and can they really be distinguished?
Earlier studies in 1960’s by Dr. Landrum Shettles who popularized the Shettles method suggested that X bearing sperm are larger in size/shape whereas the Y sperm are small.

This was explained Due to the sheer size difference between X chromosome which is much larger compared to the Y chromosome. This meant that Y bearing sperms would be smaller hence, swim faster as contain less genetic material.
However, this is not true as proven by recent studies.

DIFFERENT METHODS TO CONCEIVE A BOY
Alkaline Diet for a Baby Boy Method
Dr Shettles method also states that acidic pH in female environment has deleterious effects on Y sperm thus reducing the chances of conceiving a boy (low probability of 48%). Therefore, according to his method you should consume high alkalinity foods such as citrus fruits, root vegetables, nuts etc to make the female body environment more alkaline.

Again this is not true, a recent study (3) looked at 58,489 human sperms showed that different pH ranges do not alter the ratio of X:Y sperms.

Timing Around Ovulation & Position Do they work?
As suggested by the Shettles method Y sperms are faster, therefore they exhaust and die off quicker so, if trying for a boy intercourse should only be the day of ovulation and 2 to 3 days after ovulation (1).

Similarly with respect to position, any position that favors deposition of sperm closer to the opening of the uterus is favorable according to this method as the Y sperms swim faster and would reach the egg earlier (1).
Unfortunately, this is not the case if it were, then all women conceiving through a fertility treatment procedure called Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) a procedure in which highly motile sperms are directly inseminated in the uterus around ovulation time , would all have boys. But this clearly is not the case, as shown in this study. what % did have boys. Well it is around 50% (2).

Current Chances?
Whether you do or do not practice any of the mentioned methods so far you naturally, have a chance of 50% to conceive a boy. Now which method is proven to increase this chance of having a boy to almost 100%.

PROVEN METHOD TO CONCEIVE A BOY
The scientifically proven method is by Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). A procedure which takes place alongside In Vitro Fertilisation where eggs and sperms are cultured in the lab to form embryos which are genetically tested to see if it is a boy or girl prior to transferring the identified embryo to the female uterus for implantation.

With PGT you can be sure that once you conceive it will be the determined gender.

There is a lot of misinformation on this topic. Non validated claims of high success rates achieving desired gender. Be cautious and do your own due diligence. Confused? About anything? Let me know in the comments below.

Literally it's just chance. We've always had sex the day of ovulation or the day before and first two were boys and this one is a girl. Didn't do anything differently.

The point made on IUI and the shettles method is not entirely correct. The shettles method explains that the Y chromosome sperm swims faster but the IUI process cuts out the ‘swimming’ process as sperm (both x an y) is directly deposited directly in the uterus right where the egg is. In natural conception sperm is deposited in the vagina, close to the cervix and have to swim up to the uterus. So the method may or may not be effective but an IUI is not a valid reason to justify.

It's like that, no matter if you’re 40 or whatever, after reading Dobbie Nerkstrol's guide, I ended up pleasantly surprised. Thanks for the information, PGT could 100% determine the baby's gender but it doesnt garantee, it would result in pregnancy, as its also doesnt garantee 100% sucess rate, so it's also a game of chance, except that PGT is way more expensive than the others trial options of baby dust and Dr Shettles method.Thank you for sharing.

So the honest answer is: there is no way to improve your chances of having a boy or a girl except IVF Method. So everything else is BS and waste of time.
