"My courage only exists in my writings." Tiger Temple, High Tech, Low Life
With over 500 million people connected online, China leads the world in internet users. Yet, due to strict censorship policies, it is also the world's biggest prison for bloggers and cyber-dissidents. High Tech, Low Life provides a fascinating peek into the lives of two citizen journalists, 57-year-old Tiger Temple, considered China's first citizen blogger, and 27-year-old Zola, a fruit seller turned minor blogging celebrity. With different values and motivations, both bloggers work tirelessly to leak their stories to the outside world. But with risks to their safety increasing, will they lose out to China's great firewall?
Stephen Maing / China and USA / 2012 / 87 mins / Mandarin with English subtitles / Documentary
Tribeca, 2012 | Sheffield Doc/Fest, 2012 | Tribeca Film Festival, 2012 | IFF Boston, 2012 - Best Documentary Special Jury Award
